In my life as a London family photographer I work with wonderful families all over this amazing city. I offer two different length photography sessions for families – a 1-hour session and a 3-hour session. After years of experimenting with different length sessions I have settled on these two and would like to use this blog to explain why. And I feel these two relaxed family portraits will help illustrate the reasoning behind my decision.
Relaxed family portraits home and away
I absolutely love photographing families outside in their favourite park but also in their home. If I had to choose which was my favourite I really don’t think I could. When children are outside they have the freedom to run around and be themselves. This might be hard on my legs, but it does give me the ability to produce really natural portraits of the children. Photographing children in their home tends to be a bit less energetic, but they are so comfortable and relaxed that it again produces really genuine portraits. And it also has the advantage of the family home being the backdrop to the images. These family portraits will be so special to look back on in years to come.
Which length family photography session would suit you best?
Because I love doing family photography sessions both outside in the park and in the family home I am happy for the family to decide where they’d like their family portraits taken. If they only want photos in the family home, then an hour is plenty of time to get some fantastic family portraits. Or if they only want an outdoor session an hour is also enough time. But if they would really like both then opting for one of my 3-hour sessions is the best idea. It also gives us the option to photograph a longer family outing, maybe a trip into Central London to see some of London’s spectacular landmarks.
Two relaxed family portraits – which is your favourite?
The two children’s portraits below were taken during a 3-hour family photography session just before Christmas. We started the session outside in the local park and had so much fun. We then returned to the family home to get some relaxed family portraits in their beautiful, colourful home. And I honestly don’t know which image I prefer. The children look so happy and relaxed in both I just can’t choose a favourite.
If you’d like to have some relaxed family portraits taken, but can’t quite decide which session would suit you best, please do get in touch.
