Professional Musicians Portraits and why I love photographing musicians!

Posted by & filed under Musicians.

As well as my work as a London family photographer, I also take lots of professional musicians portraits. I absolutely love photographing musicians, mainly because I started off my life as a musician, before taking up photography. After five years studying at the Royal College of Music I began working as a freelance violinist with several of the London Orchestras. I was then lucky enough to be offered a full-time job with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. I spent ten extremely happy years playing for the operas and ballets with this amazing orchestra.

Just before the arrival of my children I decided I needed to do something more with my passion for photography. I’d loved taking photos ever since I was given my first Brownie camera as a young child. So I took the difficult decision to leave the Royal Opera House and did a two-year photography course at the City of Westminster College. Leaving the orchestra, which had been my life for ten years, was an extremely difficult decision to make. But as soon as I started studying photography I knew it was the right choice for me. Since then my life has been a busy and exciting mix of bringing up two amazing children and working as a photographer. I also still get to play the violin occasionally which is wonderful.

Professional Musicians Portraits on location

Because of this background in music I really enjoy photographing musicians. It’s great to meet them and hear all about their work or studies in the music world. And while we chat I create the most natural images I can. My musicians photography sessions take place on location. We can either do the shoot in a London park or use the amazing urban backdrops of this wonderful city.

I provide great value two-hour sessions for professional musicians who need a fresh set of images for their website, social media and concert programmes. I also offer a discount for students who need some publicity photos to start off their professional career. And my plan going forward is to start running mini session days a few times a year. These will be for musicians who only need a few new images to update their profile picture. Or perhaps they need a new image to advertise a specific concert they have coming up.

It certainly is an exciting time for my London Musicians Photography! If you’re interested in booking a session, please do get in touch on hello@alexakidd-may.com or 07813 816335. More details about my musicians photoshoots can be found here London Musicians Photographer
