Working as a London family photographer I spend a lot of time creating beautiful natural baby portraits. It’s something I really enjoy doing whatever the age of the baby.
With newborns the baby photography session usually takes place in the family home. I remember when my two children were tiny how hard it was to get out of the house at a certain time. So I find families are more relaxed if I come to them. This way I can fit around the baby, without anyone worrying about the time and watching the clock.
When babies are older, I absolutely love to do the session outside, particularly when they are sitting up unaided. We can go to the family’s local park and get some wonderfully natural baby portraits.
Natural baby portraits in your favourite park
In the case of this particular baby photoshoot I had photographed the family a couple of years earlier. At the time they had one gorgeous baby girl and I had a brilliant time photographing the family in one of their favourite London parks. I was overjoyed when they got in touch recently to book another family photoshoot. Since the last time we’d met they’d welcomed a new baby girl into the family. They were keen to get her photographed at around the same age, which I thought was a wonderful idea.
We decided to meet in the same park, and once again we had a perfect summer’s day. We began the session with some relaxed family portraits of them all together. After that we got lots of gorgeous natural baby portraits of their younger daughter in various locations around the park. The image below is one of my favourites from our morning together. The distinctive wall in the background is quite a feature of this particular park, so I wanted to include that in some of the baby photos. With the perfectly backlit trees in the distance and this sweet little girl in her beautiful dress sitting on the grass, it makes for a perfect baby portrait.
