For the second in my series of favourite musician images I’ve chosen something a bit different. With each image in this series I’m going to share the story behind the photo. As a London Musicians Photographer I photograph many musicians all over London. I like to do the shoots outside and photograph the musician in an unusual context. Rather than doing the photo session in a studio with a plain background I like to take advantage of all the amazing backdrops in London.
Musicians Portrait Photos at the Southbank
In this particular musicians photography session I met up with a wonderful violinist called Vicky. We decided to do the shoot at London’s Southbank, a place I visit regularly. It’s a fantastic vibrant part of London with so much going on all the time. It also has the advantage of providing a constantly changing backdrop. As a result each session I do there feels fresh.
First of all we took lots of portrait shots of Vicky near the River Thames. We made full use of various settings all around the Royal Festival Hall. Then we went to one of my absolute favourite locations in London – the Skateboard Park. For those of you who don’t already know this wonderful area the walls are covered with brightly coloured graffiti. They look absolutely stunning in photos. You just have to be careful of the odd rude word!
Silhouette in the Skateboard Park
After photographing Vicky playing in front of the graffiti we noticed a large crowd had gathered! They certainly seemed pretty impressed to hear her wonderful playing in such an unusual setting. And I’m sure they were enjoying watching the skateboarders whizzing around too! I quickly moved behind Vicky and captured her silhouette with the crowd taking photos in the background. I absolutely love this musicians image we created! It’s just a little different from the musicians portraits I normally take.
If you’re in need of some new images for your musicians website and publicity please do get in touch. I’d love to create something unique for you.
