I first met Nicole last year at the Fulham Prep School Christmas Fair. I had a stall there to promote my family photography sessions in London. When she asked me to photograph her family I just knew it was going to be a really enjoyable session.
Nicole preferred to have a summer shoot and wanted to wait until the warmer weather came for the photography session. So we picked a date in June and met up early one Saturday morning in Bishops Park, Fulham. The family had relocated from America the previous year and they wanted a selection of photos to represent their new life in London. As the family spend a lot of time in Bishops Park that felt like the best location to photograph them.
Every family photography session is different and as I expected, this shoot was another enjoyable one. Nicole and her family are incredibly good fun and seem to spend a lot of their time together laughing. This made photographing them a real pleasure. The two young boys were charming and seemed to really enjoy the whole process too. In fact the whole morning ran along smoothly from beginning to end. The eldest told me he was very keen on photography and seemed fascinated with everything that was going on. He was full of questions about what I was doing. I think they may have a budding young photographer in the family. The youngest arrived with a plan to incorporate lots of photobombing into the session. This was highly amusing and certainly made me laugh.
When I photograph families with young children I really try and keep the kids engaged and happy for the two or three hours we’re together. So in this case we made a deal that in every different location we would end the series of images with a photobomb! It worked perfectly – the young boy was so pleased that his plan was being put into practice and meanwhile I had plenty of time to capture lots of images of one very happy family.
We had a great morning together and created a wonderful series of portraits of this American family enjoying their new life in Fulham, London. I hope you enjoy a selection of images from the session…
