Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a lovely family of five exploring Westminster. Mum, dad, two teenage boys, and their daughter were visiting the city together. They wanted a mix of relaxed family shots and individual portraits. So, we planned a session that captured both.

Iconic London Backdrops

Westminster is one of the most popular locations for a reason. Everywhere you turn, there’s something instantly recognisable. For this session, we made the most of it.

We started with the whole family walking across Westminster Bridge with Big Ben behind them. It was the perfect way to ease everyone in. Then, we included the London Eye in the background, and a passing red London bus brought energy into the frame. This gave the photos a different feel while still keeping that classic London look.

And of course, we couldn’t skip the Instagram favourite. The red telephone box with Big Ben behind it is always a hit. It’s one of those shots that never goes out of style.

Individual Moments That Matter

While family photos are important, individual portraits tell their own story. Each of the three children had their moment in front of the camera.

At first, the teenagers were a little unsure. However, that’s completely normal. With a bit of guidance and some light conversation, they quickly relaxed. Before long, their personalities started to shine through. These are often the images families treasure the most later on.
