Photographing children is always full of energy, but a session with twins brings something extra special. This shoot with two young brothers was full of movement, laughter, and those little in-between moments that make childhood so memorable.
We started the session near Tower Bridge, one of my favourite spots for London photography. The space, the light, and the iconic backdrop make it perfect for letting children run freely while I capture everything as it unfolds.
Letting them lead the way
From the very beginning, the boys set the tone. They ran across the grass, laughed together, and naturally fell into step with each other in that lovely twin way.
There was no need to ask them to pose. Instead, I let them play, explore, and interact as they normally would. As a result, the photos feel relaxed and full of personality.
Some of my favourite images from this part of the session are of the boys running side by side, completely in their own world. Then, just moments later, they were hugging and giggling together.
Capturing them as Individuals
Although photographing them together was a joy, I also made sure to capture each boy on his own. This is always an important part of photographing siblings, especially twins.
Even at the same age, their personalities shine through in different ways. One might be a little more thoughtful, the other more energetic. These small differences are what make the images so meaningful.
By keeping things light and unstructured, each child had space to be themselves in front of the camera.
Exploring Shad Thames and St Katharine Docks
As we continued, we wandered through Shad Thames and then crossed the river to St Katharine Docks. These areas offer such a variety of textures and colours, which work beautifully for children’s photography.
The highlight for me was photographing the boys in front of the colourful walls in St Katharine Docks. The bright, playful backgrounds suited their personalities perfectly.
They brought so much energy to the space, and the colours added an extra layer of fun to the images. It felt like everything came together so naturally.
Why Fun Matters in a Children’s Photography Session
Sessions like this are a great reminder that children don’t need to sit still or behave perfectly to create beautiful photos. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.
When children are free to move, play, and be themselves, that’s when the magic really happens. The result is a collection of images that feel joyful, genuine, and full of life.
A fun children’s photography session isn’t about perfection. It’s about capturing who they are, right now, exactly as they are.
